Jan, thanks so much for the info. I have the girl now, and think you might have struck lucky for me. Tell me more about the 1891 site - I quite thought that people had bought/had access to the microfiches, cd's etc. I didn't realise there was a site to access, otherwise I would not have bothered you or any of the other kind people. I am quite prepared to pay for the info. I need, but honestly didn't know about it. Could you advise please? Thanks Ja\cqui

Sorry for the delay in replying, but only just found your last message. She was shown as Francis, Daughter. Please don't worry too much about the spelling, they weren't nearly as particular as we are now. I've seen Pheebe, and Horiss and all sorts of strange spellings for names. But I am sure it was Francine. I got the information off the 1891 site, you have to pay a subscription to access it,but its very useful, as you can tell by the number of requests for lookups. Jan.

Thanks for the info Jan - I'm a bit confused really as Francis with an "i" is surely a boy's name? If not then I will have to go back to square one, as I've only been looking from the female version of the name. Was she down as "daur" meaning daughter, or son? Silly to ask I know but her hubby George William was originally down as "daur" on the 1881 census and then "son" written afterwards - told you they were a weird family!!! You also mention that you took the infor off the 1891 site - is this accessible, or do you have the written version in book form? Either way I would be interested to know where you got it etc. Many thanks. Jacqui

In the index she was shown as Francis with an "i", but reading the original sheet it looked far more like Francine. There was definitely a d o t over the end of the name, so it must have been an "i" anyway. I took this off the handwritten sheet on the 1891 site. Don't have any discs. Don't worry about exactness with names. My grandfather is Charles in 1881 and Arthur in 1891. His brother, shown on census and known as Arthur, was registered as Walter. Jan.

Thanks very much Jan - this sounds more hopeful. I'll visit the LDS this week and check it out - do you think Francine could have been Frances (?) Remembering some of the transcription errors I have seen I suppose it could have been Frances, Frank, Freddie etc etc. Change sex and the drop of a vowel! I assume you have taken this info off disc - if so is it actual enumerator sheets or transcribed records? Just interested as I think I might invest. Grateful thanks. Jacqui

Thanks Rosemary - I don't actually think it is the right family but (and its a big but) there is every chance it could be connected to those I'm looking for. I have come across these people on other sites but according to Frances King's wedding cert.her father's name was JOHN - so I'm stuck with searching that avenue at the moment - feel like adopting these people thought in desperation. Thanks very much anyway. Jacqui

Would anyone with access to the 1891 census please look up for me the following? I would be very grateful. My grandmother - FRANCES KING (Aged about 2 - born 1889 if records I have are correct) Her father - JOHN KING (Lace Maker) Possibly a sister - LILY KING (Aged 1 or perhaps not yet born then) I believe they lived in the central Nottingham area - possibly Sneinton. Thanks in anticipation. Jacqui
