Hi Rodney, I'm sorry I,ve been so long getting back to you. I visited both the LDS centre here and the local SOG family history centre, earlier this week and neither of them could help,as transcribers are still working on indexing the 1901 census, and they do not have the microfiche. So I then emailed a library close by that has a reputation for having a great genealogical section, and the librarian said there was no way at present to search by name and to try to search the country-wide censuses without knowing to which province they were coming would be a daunting task. She made the following suggestions. If you can arrow down the year of emigration, passengers lists can be searched to see destination city. She said you could search all of 1900's lists but they too are not indexed. You could place a personal ad in all the major newspapers across Canada for descendants of the family giving as much info as possible. Post requests for info on the message boards of all the big Genealogy web sites, online noticeboards etc, and also major genealogical societies in each province. Write to the provincial archives in each province and have them check directories. In BC for instance vital stats have been released to the public, so records can be checked for deaths. Lastly, and this one I have already done and come up with 4 pages of Jonases across the country, check online phone directories for occurrences of the name and pick some to phone. Who knows you might strike lucky. I entered Canada411 in the search bar, and then did a person search when the site came up and just entered surname and all provinces. You're lucky Jonas is not too common a name!! Just change that a to an e and you have my current name for research. Just enter that one and I'd get a few thou!!! For you it's a very manageable number. Sorry I can't be of any more help, but do let me know how you get on and if there's anything more I can do let me know. Good luck and happy hunting. Just realised I'd have done better to email this, but too late now. Di.

Hi Di Thanks for all your help!! I'm quite overwelmed--you shouldn't have gone to so much trouble when you have\all your own research to do. You have given me lots of avenues to explore--some of which I wouldn't have dreamt of!! Many thanks again much appreciated Rod
