I have found a relative on the Pedigree Resource File with the name and address of the submitter. I am wondering if it would be useful, or appropriate, to contact this person. Does anyone else have any experience of this?

Vanessa Well, I found details of a submitter in New Zealand, and I wrote to him, but I never did receive a reply. You could try - perhaps your submitter will be more prepared to communicate with you! Good Luck Janet

I have also seen these details but never contacted the person. I can't see it doing any harm - you are merely trying to find out if they can give you any more info on the information they have given. After all - if they have given the info to go on a website, it's hardly keeping it private, so I say - "go for it!" They can only say no. Good luck.

Vanessa, go for it and write to them. I did a few weeks ago when I found one of my rellies on a pedigree on LDS, and the guy phoned me. He is now a Mormon himself, but he was really helpful regarding info. Good luck Kim

I suggest you make contact. The submitter of one of our relatives turned out to be a third cousin living in the States. We didn't know they existed until we wrote asking if they had a personal interest or if their interest was academic. We've learned a lot by making contact.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Yes, I was wondering whether the submitters are always related to those they are submitting or whether it's a sort of academic exercise. Anyway, I am encouraged to make contact!

One of the reasons you may not receive replies is the fact that the submitter may be dead. Remember some of these records were transcribed many years ago. However LDS does encourage you to contact. Give it a go.
