I am unable to find where my gt gt grandfather was born.I know he was married in Cheltenham in 1853.Was in Painswick, Gloucester, when his son was born.in 1854. His wife was born in Painswick. Gloucester in 1830. Then they both disappear until their deaths, Both of them in Edmonton London, her in 1895 and him in 1915.I know that the son was living with the wife's mother in Painswick in the 1861 census. Any suggestions as to how to solve the mystery. living in hope Tricia

Thanks Rosemary. George Carter born c 1833 married Eliza Wynn in Cheltenham 1853 one son found John Joseph Carter born 1855 in Painswick. I have the marriage certificate. he was a cleaner on GtWR at the time of his marriage and was living in Cheltenham, in lodgings I think. His age is given as of full age and his death certificate states that he was 82. I have found a George Carter in Ilmington right age and fathers name of Joseph was right but they were farming folk and the ones I need were George a cleaner and his father was a plumber. Tricia

Rosemary YOU ARE A STAR!! That has got to be them.In 1881 his son John was living in Datchworth, his occupation was a GASMAN and his second child was called Elizabeth Ann, born 1879. I have searched for ages to find where he was born.I could not find them on the 1881 but I now know that the George I have found on the 1901,is mine as he was born in Cheltenham and was widdowed in 1895. Thanks to Marion and Catherine for their help as well. Tricia

Rosemary I have just noticed that you are from Cheltenham. How apt that my problem that started in Cheltenham was solved by someone living there now. Thanks again Tricia
