Is there an 1831 census? I'm looking for a Rebecca Duerden, born in Nelson,Lancashire and I'm hoping she would have been born just after 1831. All I know about her is that she had a son, Thomas, in 1857, but his father is unknown. Can anyone help me? Thankyou.

There was a census taken on 30 May 1831. Information was very scanty - mainly just heads of households, or numbers of inhabitants. Most do not survive, but if they do they will be in the county record office concerned. Worth ringing and asking. Maz. XX

Thanks, Maz. I'm thinking that will be Preston records office. I'll give them a ring next week to see if they can help.
