I've 'inherited' details on my family tree, without much information or means of how it was collected. It traces back to Thomas Ballinger & Hannah Beard's marriage in Standish, Glos. 1st MAY 1782. Can I go back further , and if so how?

You would need to check the Parish Records which would be available in the County Record Office - and maybe some libraries. This would give you the entry for the marriage and you could then see if you could find more about the couple ie baptisms, other local records depending on their status. Maz. XX
