I think I'm going crazy ! I have 3 Sweeney's in my tree; Alice,Myles and James. The 1891 census has them all living in Burnley and gives their age and place of birth. I've checked St. Catherines Index for all three of them and cannot find any of their births for their given birth years. Not even when I've looked several years either side. I've even looked in other places for births with these names for the respective years-zilch ! What am I doing wrong ?

Craig, Assuming you have also tried family search and fbmd, why not look for the parents mariage, they could be step (or real) children who changed their registered birth name on the mariage of their parents. Pam

I had this problem with my great uncle Arthur. On his birth certificate it says Walter. See if you can find the right surname, area and year, then send for the birth certificates only if the parent's names are correct. Jan.

Craig. By the St Catherines House records did you mean you looked on the 1837. Give birth dates for the Sweeneys and I'll look for them
