trying to trace my grandfathers family and know very little about them. I have an address and know for sure that his family lived there in the early 1920's. If i could gain access to a census for that time I could find out their names. have tried 1901 but there was a different family at the address back then.I don't have any living relatives that can help. Any advise what be great. Thanks. susana

Hi Claire, My grandfather was Albert Anderson His father was Jim Anderson (I presume short for James) His mother was Elizabeth (Don't know here maiden name. One of his sisters was May Anderson. I think she was born in 1901. They all lived at 21 block g Peabody buildings in Roscoe street London EC1. Thanks Susana.

You can't have access to any census after the 1901 because of the privacy law stating that 100 years must elapse. Your best bet is to start getting certs., either birth or marriage. That is the only way to be CERTAIN that you have the right family. Start by asking family but if you have no living family that can help you, you will have to look at your b cert. and get the marriage cert. of your parents. If, like me, your parents weren't married, your b. cert. SHOULD have both your parents names. Good luck and welcome to the Dead Persons Soc.

Hammermouth sounds like a mis-transcription of Hammersmith which is west London.

Hi everyone. Geneology virgin here again. I don't think the Andersons from south London are the right ones. Elizabeth was his 2nd wife and by the time my grandfather was born the other children were grown up. I think the only way I can get anywhere now is to try and get a copy of my grangfarthers birth cert. I know his birthday was the 2/11 but not sure of the year--- 1919/1920? he was born in London. Would this be enough to go on?

Hiya If you can afford a fiver for some credits on 1837 online you should be able to find the entry in the register and armed with that, if you are in the Uk there's a direct link to where you can purchase BMD certificates - standard charge is £7.00. They're pretty quick and I've spent far too much money doing this because it's addictive! Good luck A
