fed up looking, any suggestions

been trying to find marriage of great great grandparents for months with no luck . all i have is there names which were thomas mccarroll and jane skelly most probably married in ireland ,i cannot find record of this anywhere, its driving me crazy, can anyone advise me.

hi laurie ,dont have much to go on, ive also been looking for my greatgrandads birthplace also with no luck . his name was james mccarroll born 1877 , he moved to scotland between then and 1896 were he married and died. all i have is his parents names as on last message , i e-mailed an irish geneologist who said probably northern ireland , either antrim or co louth, but i know my grandfather visited family in purdysburn n/ireland in the 1960s,hope this makes sense,regards jackie

Hi Jacqueline, Not much luck as yet. I have found that both Skelly and McCarroll are of Irish origin. McCarroll most common in Tipperary, Offaly, Monaghan and louth in the 1800's. Skelly was most common in Westmeath. Alternative spellings were O'Carroll and Carroll. Scully, Scally and O'Scully. I will have another look for you tomorrow nite. Is that you on the McCarroll Genforum board? Laurie

Hi Jacqueline, The village of Purdysburn is in County Down, Barony - Upper Castlereagh, Union - Lisburn, Parish - Drumbo and the townland is Ballycowan. All I have managed to get is a list of Thomas McCarrolls that are in Griffiths Valuation 1484 - 1864, they are mainly found in Antrim but there are a couple in Louth and Monaghan. I also found a James but realised he wasn't the right one as it would of made him 11yrs and running a farm. I shall keep looking for you. Don't give up. hi laurie , thanks for taking time to look for me, i really appreciate it.you have got info that i havent got so when you have time could you e-mail the thomas mccarrolls you found. thanks again the willingness to help people on this board is really great ,hopefully i can return the favour one day ( when ive got the hang of it )
