Hi Anna, On Low road in Whitehaven there used to be a Workhouse which was demolished in the 1960's I believe it had a maternity wing attatched to it. But I am not sure of the number it would have been. There are also a row of terraced Houses still there. I will have a look at the numbers next time I pass. Regards Barbara Rennoldson |

Does anyone know what type of building stood at no 7 Low Road,Whitehaven in 1919 as my grandmother was born illegitamately there and the informant on her birth certificate was the occupier of 7 Low Road,we were just wondering if maybe there was a home for unmarried mothers or something.If anyone knows how i can find out this information i would be most grateful if you would let me know.Thanks anna |
