I'm on AOL and do occasionally have problems with the site but the couple of searches I did 5 minutes ago were fine. I agee with whoever said that it just depends what time you search, for instance last night I got a couple of connection timed out when I was searching. Also the site should be updating soon and it always gets really busy when that happens, so you might get a lot more connection timed out messages around that time. Good luck with your trees Rachel

The straw poll might therefore suggest it could be AOL then. Can I suggest all AOLers' mail them and see if we can't get some reaction and not accept 'it's your phone line!' Is it a cunning plan to get us all on broadband?

Iv just checked freebmd and there is a notice saying there may be problems while they are updating, I just did a couple of searches and they went ok,

Like Crista, I have no problem at all accessing Freebmd. Is it because we're not in the U.K. ?? Terry

just to add my two'penneth i very rarely have problems with freebmd - my ancestors are appearring slowly hevi ps i am on ntl

I also have difficulty with Free BMD with connection timed out. Have not been able to access now for 3 days and believe me I go on at odd times so it is not that. I am on AOL I am wondering if that is the problem. A quick survey? Thos with problems, are you with Aol as well?

I have no problems using the FreeBMD site. It get's busy in the evening so stay away then. Another tip, don't use the county when searching. It takes forever and may miss out some results. Crista

Hi I have just uploaded Twenty pages I have transcribed For 1857 deaths I have been succseful on my searches You have to wait till uploaded on site Maureen

I use the back button but it seems to make no difference. I will just have to be patient and wait until some of the traffic caused by the update dies down a bit. FREEREG is not the same as FREEBMD. I think it is a sister site to FREECEN and only covers some areas. Not the areas that I need unfortunatly. Tricia

I've found FreeBMD to be next to useless. I can count the number of times I have successfully searched on there - by 'successful' I mean it hasn't told me it's busy. I know they haven't transcribed all the records, but it's really frustrating when they keep expanding the database - they haven't done my ancesters pre-1901 yet!

This FreeREG - is that the same as FreeCEN UK? Jan

FreeBMD does tend to be particularly busy in the evenings (European time). I have noticed the performance is much slower and sometimes times out completely. Right now for example it is fine. FreeREG, I'm not sure. I had heard it was sometime in the summer but there doesn't seem to be any update on the site.

I think it's just when the site is busy that we get that problem. It's a bit slow at the moment. It's always particularly busy soon after an update, but seems to be particularly bad in the evening. A victim of its own success, I think! Janet

If I get that on BMD or any other site, I use the Back button, count to ten and try again. Usually it then works. Must just be some little glitch that causes it then clears. Jan.

Hi Is anybody having trouble with the FreeBMD site. Since they have updated, I keep getting the CONNECTION TIMED OUT message. Is it just me or are there others out there suffering the same problems. Tricia
