Would someone be kind enough to do an 1871 look up for me? I've got Thomas Duerden, my ggranddads marriage certificate, but his fathers name and occupation has a line through it. He was married 17/01/1878 to Sarah Ann Halstead in Burnley, Lancs, and his residence at the time of the marriage was 22 Bradley Row, Little Marsden, Nelson, Lancs. If anyone could find his mother or fathers name from this info, I'll be very grateful.

Can you give us HIS name first? :-)

Sorry, I've amended my notice and put that his name was Thomas Duerden. I can't believe how stupid I was not to put it on in the first place!

Linda, I had a quick scan of 1881 for you and you'll need to be more specific as there were so many matches - I didn't manage to find a Duerden at Bradley Row but there were over 300 hits just for Great and Little Marsden and I must admit I gave up after a while. Does it say your ggranddads age on the marriage certificate? If someone has 1871 they will also need that to get a good match. Have you tried to find you ggranddads birth record yet?

This is going to be a tricky one. I take it you have found them in 1881 with their 2 daughters? The line usually means father unknown etc. The only suggestion I can come up with is that he may be on the parish records. Suggest you start in Nelson and work outwards. Perhaps someone else can help? John
