i have come across the name eaphraim in my tree, can anyone tell me where this name originates, also i have it as a daughter in the census but all the others listed where boys anybody any idea ?

Wasn't one of the boys in 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers' called Eaphraim? It is a name from the Bible, as far as I know, but it's definitely a boys name!

yeah i thought it was boys name. and i think you are right about seven brides for seven brothers, they must have made mistake on census thanks

Ephraim is a boys name my great great grandfather's name was this and this is the exact spelling either its the same name or something very similar. zoë

I'd agree about it being a male name, just started reading a book where the character given this name is a negro. However there's no accounting for parents taste!! I knew a man whose parents gave him the name Mary after his first Christian name.

Jacqueline In the Bible Ephraim was the younger son of Joseph and in Hebrew the name perhaps means 'Meadows'. Genesis 41:52 Here endeth the lesson! Vera Manchester
