Hi Thank you for your help. I went to B'ham archives on Friday and had a look at several of the schools that were suggested but could not find my rellie but it was lovely looking at the old records. If anyone wants to view school records there is a 100 year closure period unless you get written permission from the education authority. B'ham archives has a list of schools whos records they have. Hi George, Thanks for recommending that site. Unfortunately couldn't find any information on the National School in Derbyshire where one of my relatives was head mistress in 1891. Have book marked it to check again in the future. Thanks again! Sam

hi karen,i live in lady wood in the 1930ties. the main schools then were. camden st osler st the oratory st patricks nelson st (nearest to st marks st) I Hope these may be of help .catherine

Hi you're right it is a good site, I've inputting census info into the forum and the site owner Kim then puts it on the main site. So keep an eye on it. George

Hi Rosemary very kindly found where my GGrandfather was living in 1891, St Marks St, Ladywood, Birmingham. He was aged 5yrs and I would like to find out as much as I can about him, so contacted the B'ham archives regading school records. There is no index so it appears that I will have to search all the records that have been lodged. I am more than happy to do this but was wondering if anyone had an idea about what schools would have been in that area at the time or where I may find this info and at what age children started and left school in the 1890's. Shirley has already given me a start with the name of 2 schools and I have posted on the virtual brum site but any additional info would be great. Karen
