Hopefully this will answer a few points about the UK BDM Exchange. 1. The UK BDM requires you to register free to enter/manage your records. There is a separate registration required to use the forum, otherwise you will be shown as a guest. You can skip the registration if you only wish to search the database. 2. The number of registered users is currently over 8,300. The figure showing Users in the stats box shows those people who have used the site since around 07:00am each day. It is shown to give you an idea as to how busy the site is. The busier it is the slower it will become, until I can move it to another server. 3. The UK BDM is a site that allows you to share the details of records you have with other researchers. If your records are surplus to requirements you may indicate this on each record, but it is not only for surplus records. 4. The UK BDM does not conflict with the FreeBMD which list indexes not actual details from records.

I've been a member since June and the potential is there for it to be a really useful service. In addition to registering certificates, there is also a forum although the posting of messages is still somewhat sparse at present. I seem to remember having problems logging in after I just registered a couple of months ago. However, it seems as if you need to close down your browser window, open a new one and try logging in again.

I have also checked out this site and agree that it could be a gem to us all if we add our own bmd certs. I have now added it to my favourites.

Aha, seems a few of you have read this!! The ukbdm site has been running for 128 days and this morning when I looked 49 people had joined. In about 7 hours this has gone up to 89. Still very low but heading in the right direction!

Nudge!! If we follow Angela's advice, UKBDM could prove to be a very useful resource. Kathy Epsom, SRY

Thought I would push this back up the board ... I have just registered on this site and put details of all my certificates on there. But it tells me I am only the 49th user!! So just a plea to everyone to spend 15 minutes of your time registering and submitting details of the certificates you have. It's not just for ones you don't want, also those you are willing to share information on. The more people that register, the more useful this will be to everyone!!

This site is not only for unwanted certificates but also for ones that you are willing to share the information. Sometimes you do not really require the certificate, just the information on it. This site allows you to exchange that information (or even copies). Regards, Nesta

It's a great site. I have put my certs. on there. The more the merrier I say. With all these names on Family trees and all the certs. that go with it, if they were placed on this site wouldn't it be good.

Thought I would remind users of the ukbdm site where you can check to see if someone has a Birth Death or Marriage certificate that you would like information from. It could save you sending off for one. Also you can record certificates that you have aquired and swap information. Still in it's early days but has great potential. Regards, Nesta
