how do I find a relative who was put up for adopt

The rules for finding a relative who has been adopted have recently changed. I am trying to find my daughter who was placed for adoption and have recently been put in touch with an organisation called 'After Adoption' in the area where the adoption took place. They are (for a small fee) doing a search for me which should turn up her adopted surname. I suggest you write to the Town Hall (Social Services Dept) in the area where the adoption probably took place, and see if they have a similar organisation now charged with this respònsability. If you can get to the Birth Records Office in London you could go through all the registered births going backwards from 1935. You would look up your g/mothers surname at the time - if anything looked 'right' you could purchase the birth certificate. It helps if the surname is not a common one. |

Are there any other elderly relatives who might reveal more info? Where was your nan born & brought up? Prior to 1925 adoption records were'nt kept so there probably is a record out there. I'd suggest going through the registers of churches near to where your nan grew up in case there is a baptism record of the infant or a burial record incase the baby died. Good Luck George |

I have recently started doing my family tree, my cousin has done it as well but I have come a bit stuck, my nan used to talk about a baby boy john that was taken away from her now my mom was born in 1935 so if she did have a child before my mom she would of been unmarried does anyone know if there is a way I could find out if she did have a baby boy, I need some help |
