Hi Shirley Thanks for going to the trouble of having a look for me , the Emma Holland) is a very slight possible, but I don't think its her. I have a feeling that my Emma Holland (also Maiden name Holland) was born in Stoke-on-trent, and probably was living there when she married Vincent Holland, also of Stoke-on-trent. I don't know where my great grandfather came in the family- whether he was their first child or not - but he was born in dec 1861. If he was their first, a conservative estimate would make Vincent and Emma around 6 to 12? in 1851 - obviously if he wasn't then they could be upto 30ish. I have however found the following death on freeBMD Deaths Mar 1877 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Holland Vincent 35 Stafford 6b 9 This could be him - but I need to prove it. This would make his birth 1842, which would make him 19 when William was born, which would make him 9 on the 1851 census. Regards & and thanks for looking for me Maxine

Alison You are an absolute Star. I need to get up to Hanley soon, but just havn't had chance, everytime I book a day off work it is usually for childcare reasons! I don't have a huge amount of info other than that I've given above. I know that Vincent was an Iron Puddler. My great grandfather William was born on 21/12/1861 and registered the same day. He was born in Marsh Street Shelton, I am assuming that this is what we would now call Marsh Street Hanley, but I don't have a house number. It would also appear that Vincent was illiterate as he made his "mark". I am really grateful for anything you may find, and hopefully I will be able to return the favour when I eventually get up there! Please accept a virtuall vanilla slice!. Many Thanks Maxine

Maxine Im going to the Hanley archive next week I know they have the 1901 there I will see if they have the others and look this up if they have. I havent needed them myself as all the family who lived locally were listed in the family bible and my Nan used to talk about them non stop. Could you send any extra details you have?

If no one has 1851 0r 1871- does anyone one have 1861? Please please please - I am prepared to beg grovel or buy cream cakes! Maxine

Hi there Does anyone have a copy of this? If so I would really appreciate a look up if you get time. I am trying to find information on my great great grandparents. They were Vincent Holland and Emma Holland(nee Holland)- I suspect they may have been cousins. I have been unable to find them on any census , and have their names only from the birth certificate of their son, William Vincent who was born in Dec 1861. I believe William was boarding with another family in 1881 , he was a miner. I suspect that his father may have been dead by then and his mother/ brothers /sisters (if there were any) may have moved away. I have found a death record on freeBMd which may tie in with Vincent which may support this. I have also found an Emma Holland on the 1881 census with her sons(born in Staffordshire) which may be the rest of the family- although I have absolutely no proof. I would like to establish the birth dates of William and Emma , and if there were any other children, other than my great grandfather, and if so what happened to them.
