Tip for people unsure about spelling of surname

You can use * as a wildcard as well and this works on free bmd amd ancestry Havent found one that works on the LDS site though

Thanks very much for that advice. Just tried it on 1901, and it works brilliantly for Sheppard..where there are so many different spellings.

I have just been doing some playing with some geneology databases to see if they use my company's database. Many do, so for those of you who don't know, here is a tip:- - You can use % included in your search to bring up all names beginning or ending with a certain letter. For example, I wanted to search for Florance but sometimes this is spelt Florence. So to carry out a comprehensive search I used Flor% as my search criteria and it returned results for both plus all other names beginning with Flor. - You can also use % to bring up all results for a name. - So far I have tested the 1901 census and it works. On FreeBMD it works intermitantly for me, I'm not sure why yet. I hope I have explained this properly, if not please ask!
