I've just joinged 1837online and it seems the name of the game on the site is guessing the right page first time. Of course I keep guessing wrong and it's costing me lotsa dosh. Now I find that I've been looking at the wrong name as it was supposed to be Rennerd, now I've found a Rennard and low and behold it's now changed again to Reynard. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH !!!!! Terry :-)

Ive given up on 1837online, it costs a fortune, I go to the local archive and look at the records on fiche. They cover the whole of the UK and they also have the local parish records and the census.I wish all my relations were local it would have made this much easier!

Unfortunately, I live in Gibraltar so am unable to carry out physical searches. That's one of the reasons I joined the 1837 site. A lot of the progress I've made with my tree is due to the generous help of members here on GC. Terry

Depending on which county you need bmds there are some excellent county sites. Try typing the county and bmd into your search engine and it will return the bmd site if there is one Ataffordshire and Cheshire have sites with good coverage.

Alison, Further my last msge, I'm now looking pre 1837 so county sites won't be much use. Not too sure where to go from here

Hiya Terence Rootsweb might be a possible way forward. You may already have joined them aleady though I guess. If not, you can access mailing lists from the menu and then International, then England (or whatever) and that will give you areas of interest. Some people I've met on there have very kindly looked things up at their local records offices. Also if you found a friendly person near a Latterday Saints Church they can order fiches from any place and look them up. Where are your areas of interest just in case I can ever help you at all? By the way I have just sent off for two certificates from Gibraltar ... wonder who was so helpful to me about those??? Best wishes A

1830online drives me up the wall. I bought my units at the beginning, before they had indexed the marriages properly. They just had them by first letter of surname, and I ended up with over 500 pages! Fortunately they've sorted that one out now.

Hi Terence, I have to say I find 1837 excellent. I am struggling now as I'm looking for pre 1837, but if it wasn't for that site I wouldn't have got this far. A lot of the names I have been looking for I couldn't find on any of the other sites. Laurie

Margaret, Just curious ..... why do you use FREEBMD to look up the 1/4 etc then go to 1837? Isn't the info exactly the same? You could be saving yourself some pennies! Sonja

The scans shown on 1837online are the same ones that FreeBMD use to transcribe the information so that users (us!!) can get the same information FREE OF CHARGE. If you find the information on FREEBMD, please save your money. If the information is not on FREEBMD yet, then 1837online is the only other place to find it. Regards, Nesta
