I am trying to find some relatives in Scotland. My Grandfather came to the states back in the early 1930's (estimate). He left two brothers behind. Hugh Leighton owned a grocery store we believe, nothing is known about the other brother. We do know that neither of the brothers had sons. My Grandfather was born in Piploda, India where his parents were missionaries and my Great-Grandfather was a minister. My Grandmother is getting on in years (she's 81) and last heard from an Aunt that ended up raising my Grandfather (after his parents sent him back to Scotland for schooling) back in the late 1950's or early 1960's. Can anyone make a suggestion on where to go from here? I am very much an amateur when it comes to geneology and I'm not sure where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank You! Try www(.)scotlandspeople(.)gov(.)uk (obviously without the brackets). It has the census returns from 1901 and 1881. If you don't know names that far back, I recommend www(.)familysearch(.)org

Hi Janice, There were only 3 Hugh Leighton's who died between 1930 and 1952 in Scotland(you can only search upto 1952 for deaths). I see that two of them were from the Edinburgh area. It's really worth getting onto the scotlandpeople site as Kathryn suggested. You will need to spend a minimum of £6 but it's well worth it. Regards Margaret
