How do you go about finding a relative if you have a marriage certificate but dont know where they were born. Help |

Hello Debbie and thank you. I have already looked on the 1881 census but no luck. I found my grandmother Rose Worthington as I knew she was born at Kegworth, unfortunatley my grandfather was called Thomas Richardson which is a fairley common name. It says on the marriage certificater that he was living at Morpeth when he married but my mother thought he came either from Carlisle or Brampton. His father Robert Richardson was a shoemaker. Thomas was married July 13th 1907 aged 29 which makes his birth about 1878/7 Any help would be appreciated as I have tried to send for a birth certificate (for Carlisle) but nothing there. Thanks a lot |

May I found the same on the 1881 census. I searched for Thomas's father Robert, as you stated, as he is not shown on the 1881 census with Thomas and his Grandparents - but could not find any in the same area which would have been his father. On Free BMD I found the birth of Thomas Richardson in the Sept quarter 1877, registration district Brampton. The records are at Carlisle.
