Thank you all you luvly people for the replies and helpful suggestions. The magazines certainly do carry ads that may well fill the bill, and I have also found some photo albums in a stationers that are 'acid free', they are about the right price and not too expensive. I think in the end I may well be spoilt for choice - I can see what Henry Ford meant by 'whatever colour you like - so long as it's black!' Thanks again Rosi

Look for 'S and N Genealogy supplies' advert in Fam Tree Mag/Pract Fam Hist etc. They sell lovely binders- about 15 quid - they sell the 'plastic' inserts and the acid free paper too. If you phone them up or e-mail them they will send you a catalogue.

I went to a FH fair in Nottingham earlier this year and they were selling special certificate ring binders and wallets especially for birth, marriage and death certificates (they are a funny size and not readily available in ordinary stationers) I have found that the best way to store certificates is to roll them and put them in a kitchen roll tube with a sticker on saying what it is and the dates. If you fold them then you get creases in the ink. Karen

Could you use sticky back plastic to preserve the certificates? It may be cheaper than laminating. Just an idea. I like the idea of what you are doing though. It may be the best way of presenting it to my family - so far, I have it drawn out on a roll of paper 5m long by 1m!!! It's a lot of messing going back and forwards as they are all in separate sections. Your sister is very lucky and hope she appreciates all your hard work.

Don't use the plastic pull back sheets OR regular photo albums for pictures or certificates etc - the acid will eventually ruin the pictures, certificates etc. If you have a store in your area that sells "Scrap Booking" supplies go there and look for an album. You need to use "Acid Free" products so your articles will not be ruined. Try Art's and Craft stores or sometimes there are representatives that do home parties that perhaps you could contact about a good quality album you could use Hope this helps Penny

haven't tried em, but you can buy posh ring binders with clear plastic pockets supposed to be archival quality. Try "certificate binder" uk in Google for some suppliers I've no idea if they'll take a mixture of the GRO A4 size and the old long thin size, if that's what you've got

trouble is with both plastic wallets and the sticky photo albums, they will take the print off, perhaps one of the genealogy stationers may have something suitable. sueme and i have used genealogy printers com with no problems but i didnt look for anything like this. hevi

I would like to present my much loved (half) sister with Certs tracking (her) family back, paternally and maternally for some years. I have purchased Certs. that go back to about 1790 ish - if you can reservedly assume a marriage in 1813 would have parents born about 20 years previously. I have bought a self adhesive photo album, and will put them in - suitably anotated(? spelling). But there must be a better way - any ideas anyone?
