Andrew, Are they Brodericks or Brothericks on the 1891 census? I managed to find most of this family listed as Brothericks on the 1901 census. Crista

Mary I had a similar problem with one of my ancestors in that she changed her birth place on every census and changed her fathers name on each of her marriage certs. I have now discovered that she grew up in Leek Workhouse,Staffs. I have yet to discover why she kept claiming to be born Derbyshire. George

The family of Brodericks that Crista found on the 1881 census are also to be found on the 1891 census. No Thomas Brothericks can be found.

Mary, There's a Thomas Broderick born in Durham (that matches the 1901 census) in 1879 and living in Northumberland on the 1881 census. Spelling mistakes are quite common in this census. Robt. Hi mary If you get your Mother/Fathers birth certificate(I'm not sure which your grandparents relate to) you should be able to get confirmation of where your grandparents lived when they were born, which may help in locating them. Regards Maxine

Crista, thanks for reply My Grandfather was Thomas Brotherick born I think 1879. 1901 census says he was in Ashington Northumberland. 1881 says born Stockport Cheshire 5 years old. Some things wrong Mary

Mary, was your grandfather old enough to vote in 1901? Maybe you could try the electoral roll? Have you tried different spellings of his surname or other first names? Good luck Patsy

Mary, Sounds like you could do with a fresh set of eyes. If you put your Grandfather's details here maybe someone can help. Crista

I found my grandfather on the 1901 Census. This fit with the area and connected with what I knew. I then tried to find him on the 1801 census and they match him with a man 2years older and born in a different area. This was the only match they had. Now I know that things got mixed up but I can`t find any other records for either of these men. Even though I have seen my Grandmothers wedding certificate, years ago. It doesnt feel right. cant get my grans certificate because I am unsure of the area and don`t know the date. Now what can I do.
