They might charge you. I contacted the Royal College Of Vet Surgeons to be told they searched for £30 every 30mins that they looked. George

I find it surprising that they do not keep records back from the 1950's. Does that I mean I can claim to have a PhD from Salford in 1950 and they will not be able to disprove it! I somehow doubt it. I know that the alumni magazine from my old University says that they cannot give out addresses of ex-students but are willing to pass on messages form people trying to contact someone. Martin

How about putting a message for the relative university on the pages of friendsreunited.co.uk or contacting the Alumnus association which most universities have. Alison

Catherine, You could try the uni library, they may have archive copies of year books or programmes for graduation ceremonies which they may look up for you Pam

I know my local library has an archive deposit that has lots of school records but you can't access them unless you get permission of the education authority so the library tell me. They have a closure of I think 75 years. I am assuming uni records are also covered by the same rules. If you ask your local library where the nearest archive deposit is, they might be able to help. Does anyone know, if universities keep records of students dating back to the 50's. A friend of mine has rang the uni in question and been told that they don't keep records that far back, but there must be some record somewhere. The person I am looking into was an overseas student then, studying at Salford Uni.I understand he was from Argentina. Does anyone know of any south american geneology sites. Thanks Catherine
