Hi Norman Like you I am looking for somebody stationed in the Hulme Barracks but on the 1891 census. I was told to look under institutions on the census index for a ref to this establishment. I'm not sure that will be of any help to you after all this time. Eric Cross

Received my reply from the M/c Records Office to-day. They can't help. Will now try the library.

Thank you Hilary. I have sent an e-mail with my query to the Manchester Records Office and now await their response. Norman

Hi Norman Have you tried giving the Records Office a call in Manchester? I find them to be very helpful. If you have no luck there, try the Manchester Library archives. Happy hunting Hilary

My gggrandfather was based at the barracks in the 1840's. Does anyone know which regiments were stationed there? I have the 1841 Lancashire census and have found his family living in Barrack Street next door to the barracks but have not been able to find any census entries for the occupants of the barracks themselves. Can anyone help?
