Can any of you good people help me on this one? The regiment lost in WW1, made up of Sandringham workers. I think David Jason was in the drama of it, but, of course i didn't watch it! Now a relation has told me there may have been some Batterbee ancestors of mine in it. I would like to know more as it's such an interesting story Cheers Julie Tebb

Hello. Further to my last transmission. There are 48 WWI dead on the Dersingham Memorial including R Batterbee, Tried looking him up on the CWGC site but am having problems accessing the site (I am not alone in this). There are also 206 names of those who served Overseas in WWI, including 4 Batterbees, G, H, another H, and J. There are also 44 names of those who served at Home, including G Batterbee. Will add to this info if I get more, hope this helpful. Keith

Hi keith, there isn't a J Bayes on your memorial is there? He married my gGrandfathers sister and was killed in ww1. I haven't got much else to go on at the moment as i got my info from an old auntie who mentioned it in a recent letter. I wonder if the J Batterbee is GGuncle Jacob as he was born in 1881? Are the people who served just those who were killed? as GGrandfather Harry John Batterbee served in france in WW1. Cheers Julie T:)

Julie Have found this on the CWGC site Pte Robert Frederick Battersbee 41940 1st Battalion Essex Regiment Age 20 Died Thursday 16th August 1917 Son of John & Caroline Battersbee of The Lodge, Hill House, Dersingham, Norfolk. Remembered with Honour Tyne Cot Memorial Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing Panel 98-99 Zonnerbeke, West-Vlaarderen, Belgium There is also an R E Battersbee of the 7th Btn East Yorkshire Regiment but there are no family details. Hi Julie, Kathleen beat me to it, her details are of the one dead Batterbee on the Dersingham memorial, all the rest survived. Have been on CWGC and there are a total of 9 Batterbee deaths in WWI including 2 brothers. Give me any further info and I'll do a further look-up however I can say now that none of their dates of death or regiments/battalions tie up with the Kings Men. Will look for J Bayes there are 5 on the CWGC site, do you know were he lived or a regiment

Hi Just a pointer that might help..... The Sandringham men were all lost in Turkey so any that died in France or are on French memorials wont be the ones your looking for.
