Hi Catherine I was born in Chorlton on Medlock and lived there for 16 years. I had friends and relations in Ardwick, Gorton and Longsight areas, my mum worked in some of the mills. Sadly C on M and Ardwick was subject to a lot of demolition in the late 60's and those areas lost their characteristics. If I can help with anything I can remember, please let me know. I dont mind sharing the information. I now live in Australia but have a few photos and my old schools which are on Friends Reunited have websites relating to some of the old schools in those areas. Regards Leah

Thanks for the info to everyone I have been on the Manchester online site and it's excellent ,with some top photo's. Another good site esp if you want to know a bit of history about the many cotton mills is www.manchester2002-uk.com/history/victorian/mills.html Also if you are looking to see if a street name still exists mapquest.co.uk regards catherine

I'm originally from Higher Blackley, North Manchester and most of my family / ancestors were from Collyhurst, Harpurhey, Salford and Newton (I think that's now known as Newton Heath but not sure). The Manchester Libraries site is great as it has a section with old photos of streets and you can request one (although I did the other week and it hasn't appeared yet). The parish records are held at Central Library. I hope this is of use and would welcome any ideas from others. Lynne Sale Cheshire

Most of my family come from these areas, worked in the mills etc. Would be great to hear from anyone else who is also researching this area. Maybe we could pool ideas together. My mum went to Holland St school in the 30's so would be great to find out any info on this. Kind regards Catherine
