My gr gr grandmother Elizabeth Tanner was a visitor in 1881 and 1901...and I really need to find her family. Could someone very kindly have a look in 1891? She would have been about 13, born in Essex. Many, many thanks.

If she was only 3 when she was visiting in 1881 I would like to guess that she was visiting relatives- have you tried doing a bit of research on the name of the head, could be a grandparent- just a thought

Thanks, yes, she was visiting grandparents in 1881...but I really need to know if she had siblings, and if her father was still alive in 1891 as he was stated as deceased on her marriage certificate.

Thank you very much, Heather, but she was definitely born in Essex (Dagenham)father Thomas. I found her parents with one son in 1881 but no sign of any of them by 1901. Unfortunately, they seem to remain enigmatic characters!

Father's name Thomas, but as both parents have disappeared by 1901 I wonder if they had died and she was living with her grandparents. Grandfather was Richard Hurrell born about 1828 in Stapleford Abbotts, Essex. Thank you so much for your help.

have looked on 1891 for elizabeth again, there are only three elizabeths born in dagenham listed and none of them are Tanners, the only possible one could be elizabeth james aged 13 niece with her father thomas james. i haven't found anything else sorry

Thank you so much, Heather. Much appreciated. Poor old Richard ended up in the Romford Union workhouse by 1901. Glad to see that in 1891 he was still ok! And many thanks for battling with my Elizabeth, she remains a bit of a mystery.
