I am literally banging my head against the wall........I cannot find the whereabouts of ELIZABETH ANNIE BURGOYNE HARMAN, born circa 1840. She had migrated to Tasmania, Australia in 1858, I know all about her, once stepping onto the Tasmanian soil but dearly wish to find out more about her family and backround. On the shipping list, it states that she was born in Oxfordshire, England but her tombstone reveals that she was born in Brighton, England. Is there a kind sole out there, who is able to help me become wiser about Elizabeth?? Many Thanks.

Hi Jeannie, Many THANKS for your interest. On Elizabeth's marriage certificate, it shows that her maiden name was definely Harman. Also, to make it more confusing she married a Harman too. Whether this was a coincidence or a case of kissing cousins, I do not know. With a name like Elizabeth has, I did not think it would be so difficult to track her down but it's proving me wrong.....At the moment!!! MANY THANKS.

Dawn. I presume this is the Elizabeth Annie Burg Harman on the LDS site who married a Thomas Harman on 23rd December 1858 in Tasmania? If so, I see that Thomas Harman was born in Somerset in about 1820 - 20 years or so older than Elizabeth. I wonder if she travelled to Tasmania under the name of Harman, when it wasn't in fact her real maiden name? Just a thought, but I wonder if she could have been living with Thomas before they emigrated? Perhaps you may find Elizabeth by searching for Thomas? Janet. Northamptonshire

Hi Janet, Thank You very much for your time looking for Elizabeth. Yes, you have found them, this is what I already know and all of their 13 children, etc. Maybe you are right, Elizabeth might of taken Thomas's surname but why was it put on their marriage certificate.......she's such a mystery. I think it's a wise idea on finding more about Thomas, can I be cheeky and ask if you are able to gain access to the Census 1851, to look for Thomas?? I would really appreciate it, if you can.
