I have just been in touch with a cousin, he told me he had been researching our family for 25 years, I emailed him to tell him that I had just started on this fantastic trail, he asked " what programmes did I use" so he could transfer documents or data, I only have this site along with all my notes, what do you suggest I do, how can I get this info. From Sue.

He should be able to print you of a tree from his software or alternatively why noy buy your own software. If he has a tried and trusted piece of software you could go for the same. Or most files will download from one system and into another. Or ask him to send you the file so you can open it in microsoft word presuming you have that on your computer. Good luck Stephen

If he has been using a genealogy program then he should be able to send you a gedcom file which you can import into virtually any program at all, and then add your own details.

I use The Master Genealogist but it is open to personal choice. See what your relation uses and how they find their system. If you look about there was a thread on this subject a few days ago. Stephen
