Many thanks to all of you for your offers of help & suggestions. I may well take Bert up on his kind offer, as one of the counties I am interested in is Devon. I will have a look around and report back when I've made a purchase! |

This page has links to the various censuses available on CD-ROM http://www.mit.edu/~dfm/genealogy/census-chart.html Always worth trying a WWW search as there a few areas that have been transcribed and put online. Beware of 1851 census, there was a 2% sample done some years ago for statistical analysis. This is available free at various places but I am sure I have read that it was being included in some CD-ROM's but without a warning that it was only a 2% sample. Still worth checking, my Great Great Grandmother's family are in it so it gave me some help when I was starting off. MB |

This site also seems to have some useful links http://www.mick-gray.co.uk/census_sites.htm Try again....... Try again ....... <http://www.mick-gray.> <co.uk> </census_sites> <.htm > I can't understand the logic behind Genes COnnected. I posted a URL in the previous message and it was displayed OK. But this one was corrupted by GC and I have had to chop it up with brackets to be able to get it displayed without having half of the URL missing! MB |
