Depending on how old you are, and whether you have some names, you could start by looking on the 1901 census for grandparents or even great grandparents. If you can't find anything there, look at the freebmd site, see if you can find anyone on there. Try going to Links at the left hand side of this page. Write down absolutely all the information you have - dates of birth, marriages and death and if you know where they were born so much the better. Sometimes a picture will start to appear. Has your Dad got his marriage certificate? If not ask him if he will apply for it, or of he'll let you. That will give you grandparents names. Read up all you can, read all the tips on this board. Have you tried delving through the old family paperwork and photographs? I would suggest that you read a starting out guide I htink there is one on this site, I know its boring but it does help. Donna

I have just started tracing my family tree and already encountering problems. My Mum's and all her side of the familty have passed away my Dad can only help so far any ideas where I can start searching for information. I will be grateful for any help, thanks :0)
