Hi everyone, Thanks for your advice I will have a look and see if there are any images missing. She was born in 1909 and never had any other surname that we are aware of. I'm not sure exactly what district in London she was born that's why I've been looking on 1837. Thanks again Laurie

If there are more than one first name, try looking under one of the others. Often people were registered under one name then another one added in front afterwards which was the one they used, so became the one on marriage and death certs. Good luck, I have had the same problem but think it may be solved now using my tip above. Fingers crossed. Ann Glos

That's what I was going to say Ros, you beat me to it! I have found local Registar Offices to be very helpful, try phoning them. Maggy

What year was you nan born? Is it possible the birth was not registered? Apparently 5-10% of births were not registered pre 1875.

I cannot find any BMD fiche before September Quarter 1837, when records seem to have started. Are you looking for a date which may be prior to that?

Did you remember to look at the bottom of the pages for entries in manuscript? Also check the names on the images you get up. If there is an obvious gap in the entries (ie Smith - John at the bottom of one page and Smith - Michael at the top of the next) there are images missing. This happened to me. I emailed them to report it and they scanned the missing image and emailed it back. Jill

That's a real mystery. Is there any possibility that she was born with a different surname - perhaps your great grandmother's? It's the only thing I can think of. Graham

Hi there, I've been trying to get details off 1837 online so that I can get hold of my nans birth certificate. I can't find her anywhere?! Any ideas? I've managed to get hold of her wedding & death certificates through the site, but cannot find her at all for her birth (the one that I need for the info I'm after). I know she was born here and I also know her date of birth but I'm still having no joy. Well I've tried to see if there is any images missing and there isn't? Laurie
