Hi Terence Each person on the 1901 census was given an ID number. When you do a search and have the results, if you use the right click button on your mouse it gives you a list of choices. If you click on properties you will see a number come up at the very top. This is the ID that this person has been given. The idea is that all the people living together get consecutive numbers ie 001, 002, 003 etc. You can then work out all the people that lived in one household. It won't give any kind of address, unfortuately you have to pay to view. If you need to do this then get a voucher from the library as it works out better value than using a credit card. Someone did however post on one of the boards that they had credit left and would be willing to do lookups so unless it is urgent, it may be worth waiting to see if anyone else offers. Hi Karen Thanks for the info, but I'm afraid you are talking to a real computor dinosaur. I don't understand it when you say it groups all the id's together. how do you do that ?? Is it possible for you to explain to me a little more clearly (sorry) Terry

I have used the decorder once but found it a little unhelpful. It gives you first name, surname, page ID, Person ID, age, year born, where born, census place, occuaption. It does not give you an address. It saves as an excel, GEDCOM, CSV or HTML file. It will then group the person ID together so you know who lived together. Each time you do a search however, it changes the person ID so its worth practising with a family who you know the info about so that you get it right first go. Hope this helps Karen

To find the residents you will have to pay to view, unlss the decoder (of which I have no experience) can help, but I don't think so as this utilises the reference numbers which don't appear in the address search results.

I could be wrong about this but I think decoder only works by putting in 'person' names and seeing if they live in the same house. I would be interested in seeing if anyone else thinks different. Sorry if this does not help but saw you had no replies

My son has downloaded the de-coder but not the help file. I've found an address and want to find out who was living there. How do I go about it. Terry (computor dinosaur)
