No only the 1891 census is available on ancestry. It costs money to join. So you have to pay for both 1891 and 1901. But what is money in pursuit of your family history! Gary

Aaah, to be rich eh?? Thought I might have been able to join one rather than pay the government for the pleasure of seeing info freely given 100 years ago. Hey Im not bitter!!

It goes to Qinetiq Ltd, which seems to be owned by a venture capital outfit, Carlyle Group. But be fair. You can see the films of the books for nothing. You're actually paying for the bit they don't charge for, the Search system. This took thousands of man-years to create: all that handwritten data had to be read and keyed in. Done with cheap labour, but still not cheap, given the size of the job
