I have found an Edward Ford on the 1901 census who was born in St John, Lancashire, (living and working in Brecon). I think it may be my ggrandfather (he's not listed with his wife and family on the census). Does anyone know whether this is in Manchester (or Salford) as that's where my ggrandfather was born. Any advice would be appreciated. Lynne Sale CHS

Lynne I think that St John is the Ecclesiatical District of a place in Manchester, but not sure which one. For example one of them is stated as Gorton St Marks. Have you paid to view the image, or the transcription or only looked on the decoder? Vera Manchester LAN

Lynne There is a St Johns Church off Deansgate, Manchester which is just across the river from Salford. Worth checking at the Library on Monday! Vera Manchester

Montmorency

Age and birthplace information for boarders and servants was often badly remembered or just guessed by the head of the household. Try to find him in the 1881 census on the LDS website.

Vera Yes, I viewed the image (and printed it). I will check in the library. CU Monday. Robin He was only about 11 in 1881 so was at home with widowed mother. Thanks anyway.

Sorry, my point was that the 1881 would give you a different take on the birthplace. Having had a look now, I can only see one Edward Ford born in Lancashire in 1867-71, and that says Salford (and his mother is widowed, but remarried)

Robin Yes, that's him, his mother married James Masterson after his father died. I have Edward's birth cert which says he was born in the Registration District of Salford, sub-district of Regent Road, Salford. What I am trying to do though is find out if he may have been in Brecon in 1901 as I'm not sure it's him. Thanks for your help. Lynne
