I really hope that this is not a derogartory or offensive term. Has anyone heard of it? Apparently my Great grandfather was born in Paddington in 1894, enlisted in the 'Boffs' in 1875 and then died in Melbourne in 1894. Any information gratefully received. Alison

Alison. I am pretty sure it will be the Buffs. My father was in l/5th Buffs, East Kent Regiment. There is a vast amount of information on the net about them. I even placed where my father was wounded in 1916. Good luck. Just type in "The Buffs" on Google or something and you will get the history. Elisabeth

Hi Alison If he "enlisted" then it's pretty certain that he entered the Forces, quite likely the Kent Regiment. Terry (RAOB member)

Hi Alison, I am sure I remember from somewhere that there was an Army Regiment nicknamed "The Buffs" because of the colour of their uniform. In the same way that The famous Light Brigade were called the Cherrybums cos of their Red Trousers. Jim

alison I have just typed in Buffs to my search engine and it came up with 'The Buff' The Royal East Kent Regiment' Have a look for yourself I found it easily and it is quite interesting for you to see it. You could also print it off to keep with your Family research. Ann Glos
