Suzanne, Thats a fascinating one!! We are a town not a city but there is every possibility there was some sort of ceremony. I have a certificate awarded by the Mayor of Newark to my father when he was wounded on 7 Jan 1916. Please contact me direct and I will try to do some research for you in the Library. Elisabeth

I have been told by my father that my grandfather was granted Freedom of the City of Newark (Nottinghamshire) after the First World War. Can anyone help with information as to who to contact or where to start looking for the information. Many thanks
