I'm not complaining.......

I check Genes Connected each day and read the messages on the Tips Board which are usually either interesting or amusing, but... So far I have not found a single connection to any relatives through this database. As I said in the title I am not complaining because its good to know there are as many mad people out there as myself. Luckily most of my relatives seem to come from the area where I currently live so I can actually visit the areas where the lived and worked. My (I hope) best success is contacting the Rector of the village where most of my ancestors lived who has agreed for me to go and look through Baptismal records in the Rectory. His predecessor lost the map of the graveyard and the other records are in the county Archives, but it should be fun. Gary

Likewise - I haven't managed to connect up with anyone either but it's good to have so many nice people on hand to help me out, otherwise I wouldn't have got as far as I have! We live in hope though...

I was exactlty the same , until this week. I had been thinking, "where do they find these relatives?", and low and behold, I have found a very nice gentleman who is decended from the same Richard Trivett that I am descended from - granted our common ascendant was born in 1761 - so you could hardly call us closely related - but nevertheless we were both really chuffed! So don't give up on finding someone- there's new people joining up all the time, by the law of averages one of your folk is bound to turn up eventually! Maxine

Gary, If you are living in the same area as records you are looking for, try your local library. You may find parish records for a wide area, census films, newspaper records etc. I have found my local library staff extremely helpful. I have also been able to find information for others on GC after a request.

I am of the opinion that where records e.g. parish registers, are despatched to central archives, albeit for very good reasons such as the quality of storage, a transcript or copy should be retained at the original location, thus preserving the local link with history and facilitating the informal quick look-up by visitors and interested locals.
