I've made feeble attempts to find my great grandfather - the grandly named: George Charles Rudolph Christopher MEYER who I know from his Liverpool marriage cert was born in Berlin in 1848 and his father was a hotel keeper....but because i've no idea which county (?) Berlin was in in 1848 I can't seem to get past first base. Nice to know that others are searching too - I'll try the links and see what turns up.

Hello After a bit of juggling, I gather you had missed out a letter or two (as I usually manage to do!) and this link seems to work: http://www.genealogylinks.net/europe/germany/ (I've bookmarked it) In fact it's just the specific bit of: http://www.genealogylinks.net/ (I'll bookmark this too) Thanks for the info - I have German friends who are doing tree research and may find it useful. (Herbert speaks extremely good English, having taught here in the past). good hunting Christine

If you know which town they came from, you could try writing to "Das Rathaus" (town hall) and enquiring if they have records of the family.I found my great-grandmother's family on www.familysearch.org and then was able to consolidate what I knew by writing to the town hall. I also sent a donation to cover the cost of the search and the postage. It's better if you can write in German but not essential, as long as you apologise for not being able to! Hope you strike lucky!

Hi Daniel You could try feefhs(.)org to start with. I've used it searching for mine. Google comes up with plenty of suggestions if you type in "German genealogy" Sue

Can anyone give me any advise as to how I would go about researching my German ancestors? Are there any online resources to do this as I am not in a good position to get to the PRO in London very often. Thanks, Daniel
