It depends what you want to know and what information is on her birth certificate. If she wants access to her records while in care approach the social services for the area the home was in, or the charity or whoever ran the home, who will be able to advise on next steps and if records survive. Assuming that she is not that old since she is still alive, if there is an address on her birth certificate looking at rate lists or local directories for the birth address may give information on who was living there at the time, if you have mother and ?father and a place of birth on her birth certificate you could look for them on 1901 census, which may give you ages places of birth, and other family connections. I'm a novice in searching for information on behalf of my mother-in-law. I have a copy of her birth certificate and she knows that she was in care but not sure from what age. Where do I start the search?
