simple enough question but it is bothering me a lot... If I want to find someone born in Greenwich am I better off searching for pob Greenwich or pob London. Alternatively should I provide more or less detail when entering pob details. If I include house and street details will I hamper other people's searches defined only by by district/town/city.

I would search under every possible alternative i.e. London, Greenwich, the county that Greenwich is in (can't remember which), any areas within Greenwich, surrounding place names etc etc. You only have to look through the lists on names on DC to see that there is a wide range of ways of describing the place of birth. Martin, thanks you are right. PoB is just a string. It will find a person via Greenwhich or London if they have both words in their PoB details. There is no knowledge that Greenwhich is in London. So the tip is as many words as possible in the description and in the searching.
