I offered to do look ups on the 1881 Scottish census for people a few days ago but I can't find my message. Someone had asked me to look for the name Dalkeith along with Riddle. Who ever it was could you please send me the information again, preferably by email, thanx. I am still doing look ups if anyone needs them. It might take me a couple of days but I will get back to you.

Hi Susan, This was my request from before: Hi Susan, If you could help me with the following I would be very grateful: I'm trying to trace my grandfather's parents. He was named Alexander Dalkeith Riddle b. c1920 and his parents were Frank and Margaret Mary Riddle. I don't know anything about them apart from the fact they were in Portsmouth when he died in 1945 and my mum thinks Margaret might have been from Ireland. The name Dalkeith is very unusual and the only instances of it I can find seem relate to Lord Dalkeith. Since Margaret was Irish, I assume the name must come from his father's side. I wonder if you can find any other Riddles with Dalkeith as a middle name? I can't think of any other reason he might have Dalkeith as a middle name. A very big thanks in advance, Crista

Hi Susan I would be very grateful if you could look up the name GALANT (GALLANT or GLANT)on the census. The first spelling is the one I think is correct.Names are Jane (age about35)Emily(12)Mary(7)Harriet(5)I know they were in England in 1876 and were in Glasgow in 1891 but cannot find them in between.Jane's husband was Christopher but she may have been widowed in 1881.Thanks very much Lynne

Hello Susan, I wonder if you can find the appropriate census look up for the following who were probable parents of my brother in law`s Scottish grandad please. I have traced back to Duncan Mc Eachren Hogg who was born in Little Vennel, Cromarty, Ross & Cromarty in 1886. He will not be on the census himself until 1891 but a search has been made by another member for me and his parents were James Hogg and Jemima nee Finlayson. They married on 9/9/1867 so hopefully should be on the 1881 census with Duncan`s older siblings. If you find it could you give me the details please. Regards, Jeanette
