Jumped ship in America

My husband G.grandfather was a stoker on HMS Royal Adelaide in 1896 sometime after that he jumped ship in America his name was Thomas Eke, dont know how old he was, and I expect he changed his name over there. Are there any web sites I can visit to find a list of the crew members or any information about the ship ? Thanks Meryl

There are ways of tracing the ships log but too complicated to explain briefly, there are various leaflets on the PRO (now National Archives)web site. you can get there using the link from gc below
