I have recently found out that i have 3 brothers- that were adopted at a young age,my family history is rather complicated & i have very little information to go on(my mother & father were not married & both are deceased) I believe i have found out their christian names-im not to sure if their fathers name would be on their birth certificate- as it wasn't registered on mine(although i do know it).I would dearly love to find out a little more about them , with a view to possibly finding them-obviously i am aware of the implications this may have and i don't want to upset anyone. If anyone has any suggestions or advice it would be most appreciated. Many Thanks-julie

If this is fairly recent history birth certificates are the most reliable source, they will have mothers names, and may have fathers, but if you dont want to invest in either parents birth certificate do you have any addresses? (eg from your own birth certificate) If so you could try phone books, PO directory, or voting registers for the date of the source of your address (which a local library may have)to try to see who else was at the same address at the time.

Julie It all depends how old your siblings are. If they are over 18 you may be able to trace them through the adoption agency, try the local social services in the area they were born. If they are under 18 you don't have much chance, the only thing you can do is put your name on the Contact Register (again the social services will advise you on this). Then if they decide to trace their birth family when they reach 18 your details will be available to them and they can contact you. Hope this helps. Lynne Sale CHS
