Lynne Check your email - I have sent you more detail and a few additions. I think he was born in Ireland so M/c Central Library would not be of use. Vera

Hugh wallis is the IGI just another way of searching remember people could be christened at any time of life it may be a later date than you think. If you know the parish he was born in some are kept at local libraries and there are more IGI records at the LDS records centres

HI Vera Glad to hear from you again! Thanks for the info about the library. As you can see from my previous message, I've tried the IGI without luck. As I have an approximate age and know where he was married and his address when he married does that mean I may be able to find a record of his birth at the library? Sorry to appear thick but the only reasearch I've done so far has been at the FRC and online. Lynne Sale

Thanks for the plug Beryl. Lynne Manchester Central Library hold the Parish Records if you know where they lived. The records are grouped on areas with the names of the churches. You could try the IGI too, of course. Cheers Vera B, Manchester

Try the IGI on the LDS website they have a lot of parish register entries, but be careful there are some errors on the site but if you find what could be a match it narrows down where to go to find the original.

Lynne, It's me again! Perhaps if Vera reads your message she will be able to help you - I think she is in Manchester. Beryl.

Lynne, You'll have to search parish baptism registers. Have a look at the Manchester link on the Genuki site. I think Manchester Central library hold a lot and there is also a studies library I think. If you know which church the couple married in that's a good place to start checking for baptisms. Good luck, Beryl.

My GGGrandfather, James Duffy, married Mary Ann Moran in 1856 in Manchester, aged 21. This means James was born c1835. I am aware that most records only go back as far as 1837. Can anyone advise where I can get information pre-1837? Thanks Lynne
