Sandra If you type census decoder into your search engine. and pick the 1901 census, you can download it for free, you then can search your names and sort them with their id numbers and if the numbers correspond then you know they are from the same household, or Perhaps they might be from next door. I have found quite a few family from this. I bought the vouchers first. Spent them then realised I could search for free. Debbie

There is a FreeCen site on rootsweb, its search engine is supposed to be coming online at the end of this month but you can check the status of the region you might be interested in already if you click on transcriptions on the left hand side of the freeCen home page.

The 1881 census on LDS is completely free. it can throw up a lot of posibles due to the way the search parameters are defined. I am not sure how complete it is as far as the census is concerned but some of its other features are useful, and of course it has some bmd info as well. The pro 1901 census is free as far as searching for the name is concerned. You only have to pay if you want to look at the address or others resident at the same address on census night. Most times you can get what you want without going that deep or by using a decoding technique (see previous tips). HTH

I notice once or twice people have said you can view the 1901 on public record office free but I seem to have only found one that you have to pay for the only free one I have found is the latter day saints site, what am I doing wrong I am a novice very new and quite hooked but frustrated at times love this tips site very helpful.
