Hi Rosemary et al I'm a transcriber for FreeBMD and you should see the state of some of the scanned documents people have to work on. Even using a magnifying glass and handwriting simulators doesn't always help! From the point of view of census data over the years I've found LOADS of ways errors can creep in, from a member of my family changing their birthplace between 1881 and 1901 for example. My family name is GAU, I've found it written GAU, GAV, GAY, GORE with ggUncle Louis as Lewis and my GGGrandma as Francis GAN instead of Francoise GAU. But HEY, this is fun isn't it guys - admit it, we're all addicted. Happy hunting A
