CHRISTINE GOODMAN Ref the marriage of DAVID LLEWELLYN & MARTHA. I calculated that as Martha was 28 on the 1881 census she was born c 1852/3 (take 28 from 1880 and add one to the result to give you the 2 year span in case she was born after the census) then add 20 years to that date making a guess that she got married when she was 20 in 1852. I then searched for a married for David between 1871 and 1874 on the FreeBMD site and came up with a blank. Until I clicked in the box which says 'Phonetic Sound Surnames'. Then it gave me a DAVID LLEWELYN (only one L) and a Martha to match. Llandilofawr Sept Q 1873. Ref 11a 1160 in the Carmarthen Register Office. This may possibly be their marriage. The other point you made about not seeing the same number of men and women on the search - it may have been that one of the names has been missed off the indexing. On the fiche you will find the name of the groom with an index ref like 11a 1160 but the name of the bride is NOT next to it. You have to search the rest of that quarter to find her name (if you know it) and check that the ref no. is the same. It has to be the same ref. no. If you do not know the brides full name you will not find her at all - unless you trawl through the whole of that same quarter and look for the same ref. no. I have done that, in desperation, and believe me it's hard on the eyes and the patience. Hope this helps, cheers, Vera
