Colin, when you hit the brick wall--try searching for brothers and sisters instead- they usually have the same parents,and you can go back another generation, also try the censuses for extra info, then with more clues you may find your missing person. Also never assume spellings, always put the other 4 vowels in and search with them eg Jones, search for Janes, Jenes, Jines and Junes, you nevr know.
